Record-Breaking Fundraising in Memory of His Mum – Oliver’s Story

For Oliver Campbell, 48, from London, the Cancer Research UK London Winter Run has become a meaningful tradition. Over the past three years, Oliver has raised an incredible £12,872, the highest amount ever raised by a single participant in the same time period. This year, his efforts take on an even deeper meaning after the loss of his mother to cancer in May 2024.

“It means a lot because the sums raised by all fundraisers will go towards making advances in the fight against cancer,” Oliver explains. His dedication to this cause has not only helped fund vital research but has also inspired countless others to get involved and support Cancer Research UK.

Oliver’s fundraising success stems from his determination and personal connection to the cause. Over the past three years, he has consistently gone above and beyond to rally support from friends, family, and colleagues. Whether it’s through sharing his story, setting ambitious goals, or showcasing the tangible impact of donations, Oliver’s approach to fundraising has been both heartfelt and effective.

His record-breaking total is a testament to his dedication. “Every donation, no matter how big or small, contributes to something far greater than ourselves,” Oliver says. “Knowing that my efforts are helping fund research that could save lives is what keeps me motivated year after year.”

Although Oliver doesn’t consider himself a natural runner, he embraces the challenge of the Winter Run with enthusiasm. “I am not a natural runner, so there is a great sense of achievement at the finish line in completing the run,” he says. Beyond the physical effort, it’s the camaraderie and shared purpose that make the event so special to him.

“My favourite part is being in a huddle of runners who I know are all doing this in great spirits, for fun, and for a great cause,” he adds.

This year, Oliver is running in memory of his mum, carrying her legacy forward through his fundraising and participation. His story exemplifies the power of individuals to make a difference and highlights the impact of the London Winter Run community in the fight against cancer.
