Jo’s Story: Running in Memory, Walking Through Treatment, and Returning in Remission

When Jo first took on the Cancer Research UK London Winter Run in 2025, she was running in loving memory of her husband, Steve, who had sadly passed away from oesophageal cancer. Just before taking to the streets of central London, Jo received news that changed everything: a breast cancer diagnosis of her own.

Despite the overwhelming circumstances, she lined up and completed the event before immediately embarking on chemotherapy. Determined not to let treatment hold her back, Jo returned to the London Winter Run in 2026, walking the 10k course side-by-side with her best friend while still undergoing therapy.

Now in full remission, Jo is gearing up for her third Cancer Research UK London Winter Run and this time, she’s celebrating how far life-saving science has come.

Ditching the sunglasses and dusting off the iconic London Winter Run bobble hat, Jo will be back on the start line this February. Join Jo and thousands of others uniting to beat cancer together.
